Live Mealworms - 500
Mealworms are a popular, protein-rich feeder insect for exotic pets such as reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. To prolong their life and keep them fresh, proper storage and care are essential.
Storage Options:
-
Room Temperature (70–75°F / 21–24°C):
Mealworms will remain active and continue their lifecycle, growing and eventually pupating into darkling beetles. Feed them a substrate like wheat bran or oats, and offer moisture sources such as carrot slices or potato. This method is ideal if you're feeding daily and want continuous access to active mealworms. -
Refrigeration (45–50°F / 7–10°C):
Cooler temperatures slow their metabolism and delay pupation, extending their larval stage for several weeks. Store them in a ventilated container with dry substrate, and remove them once a week to feed and hydrate for a few hours before returning to the fridge. This method is better for long-term storage and less frequent feeding.
Note on Pupation:
Some mealworms will naturally pupate over time, especially if kept at room temperature. These pupae are highly nutritious and safe to feed to most exotic pets and livestock. They offer a protein boost and can be a valuable addition to your animal's diet.Maintaining cleanliness, hydration, and appropriate temperature will ensure your mealworms remain healthy and viable for feeding.
